oldham & district golf league home clubs fixtures/results tournaments rules history contact us season 2018 golf league week 5 brookdale pulled off a superb 7-1 away win at north manchester to improve their chances of promotion back to the oldham and district golf league premier division. the championship pacesetters found the rhodes course to their liking and there were wins for neil trolan and paul spence (5&4), keith loftus and charlie clough (2&1) and debutant johnny bussey and stalwart pete buckley (1up) whilst paul wood and gazz smith claimed a half. north's setback gave stamford the chance to move second at the halfway stage of the league programme and they took full advantage with an 8-0 win over saddleworth. back in the premier division, werneth produced their third big home win - an 8-0 demolition of dukinfield to join inactive ashton at the top. chris cordwell's side had wins from mark abbott and michael farrimond (4&3), lee rowbotham and james buckley (5&4), mark furnival and ben gourney (4&3) and gareth hey and johnny dooley (3&2). spare a thought for scratch player jack suttie. he was 5 under in denton's clash with blackley... and lost. the reigning champions stayed rooted to the foot of the table losing 6-2 at home. in the b divisions, blackley nudged ahead in the east thanks to a 7-1 home win over denton whilst dukinfield were beating werneth 6-2. and in the west, brookdale scored a good 6-2 home win over north as castle hawk lost ground when held to a draw by visitors oldham. premiership a 2018 pld pts ashton 4 23 werneth 4 23 blackley 5 18 dukinfield 5 18 crompton & royton 4 12 denton 4 10 championship a 2018 pld pts brookdale 4 25 stamford 4 20 north manchester 4 19 saddleworth 4 10 oldham 4 06 b division east 2018 pld pts blackley 5 27 dukinfield 5 26 denton 5 19 ashton 5 18 crompton & royton 5 18 werneth 5 12 b division west 2018 pld pts stamford 4 25 castle hawk 5 23 north manchester 5 18 oldham 5 17 saddleworth 4 15 brookdale 5 14 welcome to the oldham and district golf league (founded 1973) the league was conceived as an opportunity for local golfers to play competitively against other golf clubs in the local area and at the same time develop camaraderie between them. the intention is to enjoy good golf courses with sporting companions in a friendly but competitive atmosphere. the league was composed of 2 divisions from the outset but the cup competition was not introduced until 1980. initially, the league was based on singles matches in the a division and the first secretary was a l davidson (saddleworth gc). in those early years, the league was less competitive and league tables were not produced until the last match of the season had been played! in 1982, barry matthews (league secretary) and carl cunnelly (fixtures secretary) ran the league on a more organised and formal basis until 2005. in 1991 the end of season brian atack tournament was added to compete for individual and team trophies. since 2005, the trio of saddleworth's john walsh (chairman), ashton's brendan kennedy (secretary) and werneth's david whaley (fixtures secretary) guided the league through an expansion into a four division format with the addition of teams from north manchester, blackley, crompton & royton and castle hawk. the league changed further in 2017 with the introduction of promotion and relegation between the two 'a' divisions and howard lawton (north manchester) took over as league secretary.
